It’s time for us to start preparing for what shapes as a huge year in 2017. Perhaps the most important step in this process is identifying coaches to lead the development of our players as thoughts turn to pre-season. It gives us great to pleasure to announce that we have confirmed a number of coaches for competitive age groups, being:
Colts – Chris “Chops” Langkau
Chops led our Colts 1 team in 2016, and returns with plans to initially assemble two very competitive Colts sides, and then to taste some success leading the Colts 1 side in Div 1 in 2017.
U/16 Girls – Andrew Buntin & Mark Hart
Andrew & Mark coached our U/15 Girls side in 2016, the inaugural year of Girls Footy at Surrey, and naturally progress to lead the development of our U/16 group.
U/15 Boys – Terry Mason & Mark Askew / Dean Spencer & Liam Mooney
Terry and Mark both have sharp Footy minds and complement each other’s style. In their first season coaching our U/15 Black side we expect them to turn the evident potential into a high-performing team.
Dean and Liam worked together to take our U/14 White team to a Grand Final in 2016, and will return in 2017 with plans to have a lot of fun and take this group one step further.
U/14 Girls – Abbey Tanner
Abbey led our U/12 Girls team to a finals berth in their first season of Footy in 2016. Moving to U/14 Abbey will have the opportunity to work with many familiar faces, and a few hard nuts from our U/15 side.
U/14 Boys – Jol Sinclair
Jol and his U/13 Black team endured a very tough season for much of 2016, and remarkably still came within a couple of kicks of playing Finals Footy. Jol galvanised a team that could have thrown in the towel, and in the process showed us why he is the right man for the job.
U/13 Boys – Damien ‘Boof’ Garrett
Boof and son Zane joined us in 2016 after coming over from East Burwood. Boof didn’t take long to convince us of his love for Footy, coaching, building skills and knowledge in his players, & bringing everyone along for the ride.
U/12 Boys – Wayne Andrew
Wayne has coached younger son Ben’s team through to U/10 in 2016, and now switches up an age group to older son Richie’s team in 2017. Wayne is another who’s excited by the opportunity to lead development of a strong group of players while developing his own skills as a coach.
