Hi everyone – Following my message a fortnight ago about the Club’s preparations for the new season, I want to give you a further update about our teams. Based on current players registrations, we expect to have standalone teams in the following age groups: U/8 Mixed, U/12 Girls, U/14 Girls, U/14 Mixed, U/15 Boys, U/16 Girls, Youth Girls. The committee is optimistic we will also have standalone teams in the U/9 Mixed, U/9 Girls, and U/11 Girls age groups, but, like all our teams, we need families to register their players to confirm our plans. In my first year as President of Surrey Park Panthers, it’s been a privilege to help guide our club through a season of meaningful growth — both on and off the field. We’ve seen fantastic on-field results in 2025, with over 263 players across 12 teams, four finalists, and one premiership. But even more importantly, we’ve continued to strengthen our club culture, our sense of community, and our commitment to what junior football should truly be about. It is with deep sadness that the Surrey Park Junior Football Club and the Surrey Park Senior Football Club acknowledge the sudden passing of Mal Campbell, a long-standing figure of our Surrey Park sporting community. Together, we pay tribute to a man whose quiet leadership, generosity, and community spirit left a lasting mark. Mal was dedicated to building a strong sporting community at Surrey Park, supporting not only his beloved cricket club, but the Surrey Park football clubs too. He took great pride in following the journeys of players who played cricket and football. Mal’s passion for local sport was evident not just during the cricket season, but year-round. Surrey Park Junior Football Club is proud to announce that we have officially completed the AFL Women & Girls Charter, joining 11 other clubs committed to creating a welcoming, safe, and inclusive football environment for women and girls. We congratulate our fellow clubs—Ashburton, Glen Iris, North Brunswick, Parade St Damian’s, St Mary’s, and Warrandyte—who have also recently completed the charter. Alongside Brunswick, Fitzroy, Heidelberg, Kew Rovers, Macleod, and the YJFL Umpires, Surrey Park now proudly stands as one of 12 chartered clubs within the YJFL community. The Women & Girls Community Football Charter is a shared commitment across Community Football Leagues, Clubs, and Umpire Groups to champion and support women and girls in football. This weekend our teams will wear the Club’s Indigenous guernsey to commemorate Sir Doug Nicholls Round. Sir Doug was a pioneering Indigenous player and politician. The guernsey was designed by Laura Brown, a proud Muruwari woman from Northern New South Wales. The guernsey design was inspired by the Club’s history and the community. The four circles on the guernsey represent the local schools that have been pivotal in connecting students and families to the Club. The curved design represents Gardiners Creek, an important body of water that was a source of food, medicine and tools for the Wurundjeri People. The dotted stripes represent the people, players and families that have been involved in the Club, and the role they play in connecting community with sport.

Congratulations to Blake, drafted at Pick 14 of the 2024 Rookie Draft, by the Sydney Swans. Blake started with Surrey Park as a Tacker, and despite limited appearances in recent years due to Oakleigh Chargers commitments remained a Panther throughout.
