On a brisk Sunday morning at Macleod Park our Under 12 Girls team faced off against Kew Comets for the Green Division premiership. With most of our girls playing in their first season of competitive football they had come a long way, recovering from sizeable defeats over the first 4 weeks to qualify for finals, and then famously winning through both first semi and preliminary finals in tight tussles against strong opponents. Now Kew Comets were standing between our girls and history – Surrey Park’s first ever premiership in Girls football.
Our girls bounced out of the blocks, with an amazing early goal giving us an advantage that we’d hold onto despite repeated forays deep into the Kew Comets forward line. Our resolute half and full back lines repelled numerous attacks, driving the ball back out where our determined midfielders used the expansive wings to spread Kew’s defense and give our forwards plenty of opportunities. Intensive tackling effort all across the ground constantly denied Kew the space they were looking for, and we were ultimately rewarded with a 2nd goal just before the final siren. What an amazing result! #gosurrey
